NAHA 15 WINNERS ANNOUNCED: "Academy Awards" of Professional Hairstyling Honors North America`s Best.

July 18, 2004 (Las Vegas, NV) — The North American Hairstyling Awards celebrate the artistry and skill of the professional salon industry. The Professional Beauty Association (PBA) is pleased to announce this year`s North American Hairstyling Award winners.

Avant Garde:Stephane Legros (Pure, Montreal, PQ)
Contemporary Classic:Edwin Johnston (The Cutting Room, Nanaimo, BC)
Haircolor: Fabio Sementilli (Salon Shampoo, Woodbridge, ON)
Long Hair Dressing: Mark W. Putnam (Evolution Hair Design, Portland, OR)
Makeover: Heather Wenman (Entrenous, London, ON)
Texture: Lucie Doughty (Fred Segal Beauty Agency, Los Angeles, CA)
North American Student Hairstylist of the Year: Emily Golie (Paul Mitchell the school, Provo, UT)
North American Salon Team of the Year: Entrenous (London, ON)
North American Hairstylist of the Year: Anna Pacitto-Merlo (Pure, Montreal, PQ)
Master Stylist of the Year: Scott Cole (Color Cutting USA, Carefree, AZ)

We are also pleased to announce winners in two categories:

Makeup Artist of the Year: Monica Sementilli (Woodbridge, ON)
Editorial Stylist of the Year: Francesca Rivetti (Philadelphia, PA)

The winners were announced during a star-studded ceremony headlined by the fabulously funny Carson Kressley of the hit national television show “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy.” Held at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, the event also honored two industry icons: Horst Rechelbacher, global style leader, environmentalist and founder of Aveda, received the Lifetime Achievement Award. Winn Claybaugh, cofounder of Paul Mitchell the School and author of “Be Nice…Or Else!”, was inducted into the NAHA Hall of Leaders.

Entries are judged in two rounds, first by peer stylists and then by industry publication editors.

First-round judges included:
Adam Broderick, Sam Brocato, Mary Brunetti, Scott Buchanan, Richard Calcasola, Deborah Ferraro, Vivienne Mackinder, Dwight Miller, James Morrison, Xena Parsons, Frank Rizzieri and Ruth Roche.

Second-round judges
Mary Atherton (Modern Salon), Deborah Carver (Creative Age), Marianne Dougherty (Beauty Launchpad), Adriana Ermter (Salon Magazine), Joan Harrison (Canadian Hairdresser), Bob Lupinacci (Haircolor & Design), Robbin McClain (American Salon), Laurel Smoke (Salon Today) and Jackie Summers (Renew).
